Granny Squares

While making granny squares, we sometimes get stuck, when the motif at the center is a circle but we want it to end up in a square. Or when the square we have made is slightly smaller than the size we intended to make. Signed with an owl - Handmade by Kate Jenks has written a post with beautiful pictures. This post explains how to square a circle. You can use the instructions of the last row to increase the size of your square. Granny Stitch and Granny Squares

I made a shawl for myself in 2014, using the granny stitch.  It is a very simple triangular granny shawl. I used variegated yarn for the body and yellow for the floral border.  While looking for a pattern for the border, I came across the blog by The snail of happiness. After reading this blog I wanted to do things myself, small things like baking my own cake, baking muffins, still have not managed to bake bread. I am still working on the idea of growing my own vegetables. The snail of happiness was inviting people to contribute granny squares for her Masterpiece. I loved making granny squares but till then I could not think of a project where I could use them. When I started I was going to send maybe just two or three squares, but I couldn't stop myself from making granny squares and ended up sending nine squares. You will find the patterns for the squares here. This beautiful picture was taken by Jan. Thank you Jan for making the masterpiece! Even today, so many years
