About Me

Hello ! Thank you for visiting The Loopy Loops!
My name is Florence. I am a homemaker, stay at home mom of a lovely little girl, happily married housewife, living in Mumbai, India. I love taking pictures; I love gardening, I love cooking and I totally love making costumes and projects for my daughter. Most of all, I love colorful yarn and making crochet items, like scarves, baby blankets, shawls, bags etc.

I'm new to writing my blog. I must confess I had tried blogging years ago but I didn't manage to keep it updated with my toddler running around the house. This is my second attempt but I'm still new to writing. Through this blog I hope to meet many crafters like me.

Colorful Loops ……. Loopyloops

Hello! Thank you for stopping by at Loopy Loops Colorful Loops. For a few years now I have been reading blogs by different people. They have taught me various things and inspired me to try a few things on my own. It is amazing, so many talented people are sharing their ideas, creations, pictures! Blogs that inspired me the most, made me want to be more creative are Moogly, The Snail of happiness, Attic24 and Ruchik Randhap. I am a very average kind of person, like your simple girl next door. I cook well but not like these amazing bloggers online who dish out these amazing photogenic dishes for their families everyday. I love making crochet blankets and scarves, I also love taking pictures; I had a lovely garden at my previous house, I love gardening and I totally love making costumes and projects for my daughter instead of buying them from the store. So all in all, I am a Jack of many trades and master of none. Through this blog I would love to meet people like me, who love creati...

My First Baby Blanket

Look what I found today! This is the very first crochet blanket that I made. The rainbow baby blanket for my daughter. I made this blanket back in 2014. Back then, I liked to make small quick crochet projects, like scarves and granny squares. I made many many scarves in different patterns and colors. I was learning new patterns in crochet. So, I had a huge bag full of small balls of yarn in various colors. This bag lay hidden in the bottom shelf of my yarn cupboard. I had started crocheting again in 2012, so this was scrap yarn collected over the period of two years. This bag had turned into an eye sore, I didn't know what to do with it. I didn't want all this bright colorful yarn to go to waste. In Jan- Feb of 2014, I grew fascinated with granny squares. I remember browsing for hours at length when my daughter was asleep; looking at different patterns of granny squares. Crocheters have been making and joining squares into shawls, scarves, table runners and entire t...

Granny Squares

While making granny squares, we sometimes get stuck, when the motif at the center is a circle but we want it to end up in a square. Or when the square we have made is slightly smaller than the size we intended to make. Signed with an owl - Handmade by Kate Jenks has written a post with beautiful pictures. This post explains how to square a circle. You can use the instructions of the last row to increase the size of your square. The patterns for all the squares that I made were free patterns found online. The pink and orange flowers were made using the free pattern by A.B.McKenna at 6ichthusfish. It is called the Maybelle Crochet Flower. Then to turn this flower into a square I followed the instructions by Kate Jenks. The second pattern is a free pattern available on Ravelry. This square is called the Charity Square Nbr 2 by Donna Mason-Svara . I think for my next project I might make a baby blanket using this pattern. This granny square looks beautiful in a single color as we...

Granny Stitch and Granny Squares

I made a shawl for myself in 2014, using the granny stitch.  It is a very simple triangular granny shawl. I used variegated yarn for the body and yellow for the floral border.  While looking for a pattern for the border, I came across the blog by The snail of happiness. After reading this blog I wanted to do things myself, small things like baking my own cake, baking muffins, still have not managed to bake bread. I am still working on the idea of growing my own vegetables. The snail of happiness was inviting people to contribute granny squares for her Masterpiece. I loved making granny squares but till then I could not think of a project where I could use them. When I started I was going to send maybe just two or three squares, but I couldn't stop myself from making granny squares and ended up sending nine squares. You will find the patterns for the squares here. This beautiful picture was taken by Jan. Thank you Jan for making the masterpiece! Even today, so many y...
