While making granny squares, we sometimes get stuck, when the motif at the center is a circle but we want it to end up in a square. Or when the square we have made is slightly smaller than the size we intended to make. Signed with an owl - Handmade by Kate Jenks has written a post with beautiful pictures. This post explains how to square a circle. You can use the instructions of the last row to increase the size of your square.
The patterns for all the squares that I made were free patterns found online.
The pink and orange flowers were made using the free pattern by A.B.McKenna at 6ichthusfish. It is called the Maybelle Crochet Flower. Then to turn this flower into a square I followed the instructions by Kate Jenks.
The second pattern is a free pattern available on Ravelry. This square is called the Charity Square Nbr 2 by Donna Mason-Svara. I think for my next project I might make a baby blanket using this pattern. This granny square looks beautiful in a single color as well as multiple colors!
The pattern of the third design is by Aurora Suominen. It is called the Winter Burst. As you can see I clearly made a mistake while crocheting this square. The motif at the center according to the pattern is an octagon, while I made a hexagon. So you see crochet is all about counting the number of stitches correctly.
The next pattern is a Sunburst Granny Square. The instructions are by Margot with beautiful pictures. This is another granny square pattern that I want to use for a baby blanket.
Simply called the Granny Flower Square by Debi Y.; this is a cute flower at the center of the granny square. The pattern is very simple and can be made very quickly. I have added a row of dcs around the square to increase it’s size.
The last three squares are made of the same design. When I made this square in 2014 I could not find a diagram or written pattern. Since I liked the square very much, I just stared at the photos and counted the dcs and tried to make it. The result wasn’t bad! But now I have found many free patterns for this square. It is called the Willow Granny Square.
The granny stitch shawl that I had made is a very simple triangular granny shawl. I had used 4 ply variegated yarn for the body and yellow yarn for the floral border. For the pattern I followed the instructions by A. E. Rivera.
